穷游日本:14天背包客行程攻略

Budget Strategy Overview

Japan can be done on ¥5,000-¥8,000 per day (excluding JR Pass) with smart planning. Accommodation: hostels (¥2,500-¥3,500) or capsule hotels (¥3,000). Food: convenience store meals (¥300-¥500), gyudon chains (¥400-¥600), supermarket sushi at half-price after 7 PM (¥300-¥500). Transport: Seishun 18 Kippu in season (¥2,410/day unlimited local trains), city cycling, walking. Attractions: Japan's best sights (shrines, temples, parks, markets) are free or under ¥500. Total 14-day budget including transport: approximately ¥80,000-¥130,000 per person (¥5,700-¥9,300/day). This excludes international flights.

Tip: The biggest budget saver: eat dinner from supermarkets after 7 PM. Sushi, bento boxes, and prepared foods get 20-50% discount stickers as closing time approaches.

Days 1-4: Tokyo on Zero Budget

Free Tokyo highlights: Senso-ji temple, Meiji Shrine, Imperial Palace East Gardens, Harajuku street watching, Shibuya Crossing, Tsukiji Outer Market (window-shopping free, tasting budget ¥500), Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building observation deck (free Fuji views), Odaiba Gundam Unicorn statue and beach. Budget meals: Yoshinoya gyudon (¥400), Matsuya breakfast set (¥450), 7-Eleven onigiri (¥120-¥180), Saizeriya Italian chain (full meal ¥600). Sleep: Nui Hostel Kuramae dorm (¥3,200), Toco Heritage Hostel (¥3,000). Transport: 24-hour Tokyo subway pass (¥600) for exploration days. Day budget: ¥5,000-¥7,000.

Tip: Free guided tours exist in English — Tokyo Free Walking Tour (tip-based) runs daily through Asakusa, Tsukiji, and Akihabara. Excellent local knowledge at no cost.

Days 5-7: Slow Travel to Kyoto

Instead of the expensive Shinkansen (¥13,970), take local JR trains — Seishun 18 Kippu (¥12,050 for 5 days of unlimited local trains) makes this practical and scenic. Tokyo to Kyoto via local trains takes 8-9 hours with transfers — break it up: Day 5: Tokyo to Shizuoka (3 hours), explore Shizuoka's tea country and Mt. Fuji views. Day 6: Shizuoka to Nagoya (2.5 hours), visit Nagoya Castle grounds (free exterior). Day 7: Nagoya to Kyoto (2 hours). This slow approach costs nothing extra on the Seishun 18 and lets you see small-town Japan most tourists miss. Overnight: internet cafes (manga cafes) offer private booths with showers from ¥1,500-¥2,000/night.

Tip: Seishun 18 Kippu is only sold during school holidays (spring: Mar 1-Apr 10, summer: Jul 20-Sep 10, winter: Dec 10-Jan 10). Check dates align with your trip.

Days 8-11: Kyoto and Nara Free

Kyoto's best experiences are free or nearly free: Fushimi Inari (free, all day), Arashiyama Bamboo Grove (free), Kiyomizu-dera approach streets (free), Nishiki Market atmosphere (buy selectively), Gion evening walk (free), Philosopher's Path (free). Paid but worthwhile: Kinkaku-ji (¥500), one tea ceremony (¥1,500-¥3,000). Nara day-trip: deer park free, Todai-ji (¥600). Rent a bicycle in Kyoto (¥500-¥1,000/day) to save on bus fares (¥230 each ride adds up). Budget meals: udon chains (¥350-¥500), curry houses (CoCo Ichibanya ¥500), supermarket bento (¥300-¥400). Sleep: hostels from ¥2,500. Day budget: ¥4,000-¥6,000.

Tip: Kyoto has free admission days at many temples during specific festivals. Check the free days calendar — notably Culture Day (November 3) when many national treasures open free.

Days 12-14: Osaka and Departure

Osaka is Japan's best budget food city. Street food you must try on a budget: takoyaki (¥400-¥600 for 8 balls), okonomiyaki at Tsuruhashi (¥700), kushikatsu standing bars in Shinsekai (¥100-¥200 per stick), and Ichiran ramen (¥980). Free attractions: Dotonbori people-watching and neon, Shinsekai retro district, Osaka Castle park (tower is ¥600 but the park is free), Tennoji Park. Budget entertainment: karaoke in off-peak hours (¥500/hour with drink), public onsen in Shinsekai (¥490 at Spa World basic). Sleep: The Dorm Hostel (¥2,500) or overnight at a manga cafe (¥1,500). Day budget: ¥4,500-¥6,500. Total 14-day spend: approximately ¥80,000-¥100,000 (US$530-$660).

Tip: For the absolute cheapest accommodation, overnight ferries between cities (Osaka-Beppu, Tokyo-Tokushima) combine transport and a night's sleep from ¥6,000 — saving both hotel and train costs.
