Days 1-4: Tokyo and Surrounds

Four days allows exploration beyond standard highlights. Days 1-2: Classic Tokyo — Asakusa, Akihabara, Meiji Shrine, Harajuku, Shibuya, Shinjuku. Day 3: Day trip to Kamakura — Great Buddha, Hokoku-ji bamboo, Hasedera, Enoshima Island. Day 4: Explore offbeat Tokyo — Yanaka's old-town atmosphere, Shimokitazawa's vintage culture, Koenji's live houses, or Odaiba's futuristic waterfront. Evening: kaiseki dinner or sumo-themed chanko nabe restaurant (¥3,500). Budget ¥12,000-¥15,000/day.

Tip: Use days 1-4 before JR Pass activation to explore Tokyo on subway only. Activate the 21-day pass on Day 5 when you start using Shinkansen.

Days 5-7: Tohoku — Japan's Hidden North

Day 5: Shinkansen to Sendai (90 min). Visit Zuihoden mausoleum (¥580), eat legendary gyutan (beef tongue, ¥1,800) on Beef Tongue Street. Continue to Matsushima Bay (30 min by JR) for island-studded views from Zuiganji temple (¥700).
