Zentsuji, the 75th temple of the Shikoku Pilgrimage and birthplace of the revered Buddhist monk Kobo Daishi (Kukai), is one of the most spiritually significant sites in all of Japan. In spring, hundreds of cherry trees along its vast grounds and the iconic five-storey pagoda create a breathtaking sakura tableau. Visitors can walk the inner sanctum's corridor of darkness (kaidan meguri) before emerging to hanami views. The combination of deep religious heritage and natural beauty is unique in Shikoku.
