Each spring, snowploughs carve a corridor through the massive winter snowpack on the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, creating walls of snow that can exceed 20 metres in height. Visitors ride a combination of buses, cable cars and ropeways to reach the Murodo plateau at 2,450 metres above sea level. The contrast of brilliant white snow walls against vivid blue alpine sky draws visitors from around the world. The route spans Toyama and Nagano prefectures, offering panoramic mountain scenery throughout.
