The Yosakoi Soran Festival, held each year in early June in Sapporo, is one of Japan's largest dance festivals, drawing over 30,000 performers from hundreds of teams across Japan and abroad. Teams combine the dynamic Yosakoi dance tradition from Kochi with the rhythm of Hokkaido's Soran fishing song, performing high-energy, elaborately choreographed routines across stages throughout the city centre and Odori Park. Costumes range from traditional to avant-garde, and competition is fierce but the atmosphere is jubilant. The event draws over two million spectators over five days.
