The Warei Grand Festival (Warei Taisai), dedicated to Warei Shrine, is one of Ehime Prefecture's most celebrated summer events and culminates in a fireworks display over Uwajima Bay. The festival spans several days of processions, traditional performing arts, and the famous Ushioni (demon bull) parade before the climactic evening fireworks. Thousands of shells are launched from the harbour, illuminating the coastal city and its surrounding forested hills in brilliant seasonal colour.
