Uwajima Castle is one of Japan's twelve surviving original castle keeps, perched on a wooded hill in the south of Ehime Prefecture. Each spring the castle hill becomes a popular hanami park, with cherry blossoms framing the elegant three-storey tower beautifully for photography. The site offers views over Uwajima Bay and the surrounding mountains. A short walk from the town centre, it is often combined with a visit to the nearby Taga-jinja Shrine and local pearl oyster cuisine.
