At 1,955 metres, Mount Tsurugi (Tsurugi-san) is the highest peak in Shikoku's Tsurugi Mountain range and one of Japan's 100 Famous Mountains. Its upper slopes see the earliest autumn colour in Shikoku, with beech and rowan turning gold and crimson from early October. A ropeway carries visitors partway up, and well-marked trails lead to the summit shrine and panoramic ridge walks. On clear days the view sweeps across Tokushima Prefecture and out to the Seto Inland Sea.
