The Toyohira River Fireworks Festival is Sapporo's main summer hanabi event, launching more than 4,000 shells from the riverbanks near Tsukisamu Park. Spectators line both banks and bridge overpasses for excellent low-angle views of the colourful bursts reflected in the river. The event draws upwards of 200,000 visitors and is easily accessible via the Sapporo subway network. Food stalls and evening markets line the approach roads, turning the entire district into a vibrant summer fair.
