The Takaoka Hyakumangoku Matsuri, held in early August, commemorates Lord Maeda Toshinaga's 1609 founding of Takaoka with a flamboyant historical procession through the city centre. Thousands of participants dressed in Edo-period samurai, princess, and court costumes re-enact the lord's ceremonial entry into the domain. The festival also features brass-band performances, traditional drum ensembles, and stalls celebrating Takaoka's legacy as a centre of Buddhist metalcraft and lacquerware.
