Towada-Hachimantai National Park offers some of Tohoku's most dramatic autumn colour, with the Hachimantai Aspite Line road passing through high moorland painted in crimson dwarf bamboo, golden larches, and orange maples. Peak foliage typically arrives in early October at the 1,000-metre-plus summit zone, descending to lower valleys by late October. The Goshogake and Tamagawa onsen areas provide steaming geothermal vents as a striking foreground to the blazing hillsides. Visitors can hike the summit loop trail for panoramic 360-degree views of the coloured plateau.
