Sakaiminato's annual fireworks festival is held in the fishing port city famed as the birthplace of Shigeru Mizuki, whose yokai (spirit) manga characters line the celebrated Mizuki Shigeru Road. Around 3,000 fireworks are launched above Miho Bay, with views extending across the Nakaumi lagoon toward the Shimane Peninsula. The event draws families who combine the fireworks with a daytime visit to the Mizuki Shigeru Museum and the costumed yokai character parade. Night-market stalls serving fresh crab and squid add a coastal flavour.
