The Tomakomai Port Festival Fireworks is the headline event of the Tomakomai Minato Matsuri, one of the biggest summer celebrations in the Iburi region of Hokkaido. More than 5,000 fireworks shells are fired from the harbour front over two evenings, with large-scale starmine sequences and music-synchronised shells delighting the crowd. The waterfront promenade fills with tens of thousands of spectators, and the surrounding festival features taiko drumming, folk dance performances, and a massive array of food stalls. New fireworks categories including Niagara waterfalls of sparks along the pier are a recurring crowd favourite.
