Tenshochi Park along the Kitakami River is renowned for its extraordinary avenue of roughly 10,000 Somei Yoshino cherry trees stretching nearly 2 kilometres. The trees form a near-complete canopy overhead, immersing visitors in soft pink light during peak bloom. The annual Kitakami Tenshochi Cherry Blossom Festival draws around 300,000 visitors and features traditional Michinoku art performances, boat rides on the river, and lantern-lit evening hanami. The site is widely regarded as one of Japan's top five cherry blossom locations.
