The Higashiyama Walking Course is a gentle hillside path connecting 11 temples and five shrines on the forested eastern edge of Takayama's historic old town. In mid-April, cherry and weeping cherry trees along the route reach full bloom, draping pale pink petals over moss-covered stone lanterns, wooden gates, and hillside grave plots. The course is free to walk, takes roughly 90 minutes at a leisurely pace, and offers elevated views back over the old-town rooflines toward the Hida mountains. It pairs naturally with a morning visit to the Takayama Jinya and the Sanmachi historical district.
