Taishakukyō, a 18 km limestone karst gorge in northern Hiroshima Prefecture, is a nationally designated Special Natural Monument and one of the Chugoku region's premier autumn foliage destinations. Visitors can rent flat-bottomed rowboats to drift beneath towering cliffs draped in crimson maples, or walk the gorge-rim trail through tunnels and across natural rock bridges. The gorge reaches peak colour in late October, making it one of Hiroshima's earliest koyo spots. The nearby Onbashi natural bridge and Shirōiwa limestone cave add geological wonder to the visit.
