Shiogama, home to one of Japan's most celebrated tuna markets and a major Tohoku port, holds its annual harbor fireworks as the centrepiece of the Minato Matsuri. Thousands of shells are launched from barges in the harbor, their reflections rippling across the water between fishing vessels and pleasure craft. The event is paired with local seafood stalls, mikoshi processions, and the ceremonial mikoshi sea-crossing on decorated boats. Arriving via the Senseki Line provides easy access from Sendai, making it popular with city visitors.
