The Shimanami Kaidō is a 70-kilometre cycling and pedestrian route linking Onomichi in Hiroshima Prefecture to Imabari in Ehime Prefecture via six islands and nine bridges. Dedicated cycling paths follow the bridges above the sparkling Seto Inland Sea, passing through citrus orchards, fishing villages and hilltop viewpoints that rank among Japan's most scenic. Rental bicycles are available at terminals on every island, and bags can be forwarded ahead, making it accessible for all fitness levels. The route is widely recognised as one of the finest cycling roads in the world.
