Held over a weekend in February, Toyama Yukiakari no Michi is a community-driven winter lantern festival in which residents and volunteers hollow out snow mounds and place candles inside, creating warm, glowing yukimi-dōrō along pathways through the city's historic neighbourhoods. The soft candlelit atmosphere contrasts beautifully with the surrounding snow and the dark winter sky. The festival also features ice sculptures, warm local food stalls, and performances of traditional music. The backdrop of the snow-capped Tateyama mountain range visible from the city on clear nights adds grandeur to the intimate streetscape.
