Mifuneyama Rakuen Autumn Foliage & Illumination, Saga

Takeo · Saga · Kyushu

Mifuneyama Rakuen in Takeo City, Saga Prefecture, is a vast 500,000 m² landscape garden carved into a dramatic rock face and planted with some 50,000 maple trees that erupt in brilliant autumn colour from late October. By day the garden offers winding paths through layers of red, orange, and gold foliage beneath towering granite cliffs; by night the acclaimed digital art collective Teamlab transforms the entire garden with immersive light projections onto the maple canopy, rock surfaces, and ponds. The adjacent Gozandake cave shrine adds a mystical cultural element to the experience. Takeo Onsen's historic bathhouse gate, a national important cultural property, is a short walk away.
