Ritsurin Kōen, one of Japan's finest feudal gardens and a Special Place of Scenic Beauty, is equally breathtaking in autumn as in spring. More than 200 Japanese maple trees, along with ancient pines draped over stone lanterns, turn vivid shades of red and gold from mid-November. The garden's six ponds mirror the flaming canopy, creating compositions beloved by photographers. Evening illumination events are occasionally held during peak koyo season, casting warm light over the water and foliage.
