The Philosopher's Path (Tetsugaku-no-michi) is a 2-kilometre stone-paved canal walk in Kyoto's Higashiyama district, named after the Kyoto School philosopher Nishida Kitaro who strolled it daily. In spring, hundreds of Somei Yoshino trees arch over the narrow canal, creating one of Kyoto's most intimate and beloved cherry blossom corridors. Petals fall gently onto the water, drifting downstream in a phenomenon the Japanese call hanafubuki, or flower blizzard. The path connects Nanzen-ji in the south to Ginkaku-ji (Silver Pavilion) in the north, passing charming cafés, small galleries, and independent craft shops along the way.
