Running from mid-December through mid-February, the Otaru Canal illumination wraps the city's beloved brick warehouses and canal promenade in soft golden light. Hundreds of oil lanterns and electric lights line the waterway, reflecting off the snow-dusted cobblestones and partially frozen canal surface. The illumination runs alongside the Otaru Snow Light Path Festival period but continues beyond it, offering a more intimate, romantic atmosphere away from the crowds. Nearby Sakaimachi Street is also dressed in winter lights, making an enchanting evening stroll.
