Festival Snow/Winter Winter · December

Osaka Hikari Renaissance (大阪・光の饗宴 中之島イルミネーション)

Osaka · Osaka · Kansai

Osaka Hikari Renaissance, the centrepiece of the city-wide 'Osaka Hikari no Utage' winter illumination festival, takes place throughout December on Nakanoshima Island in the heart of the city. The Osaka City Central Public Hall and the Bank of Japan Osaka Branch—both designated Important Cultural Properties—are transformed nightly by large-scale 3D projection mapping shows that blend art, history, and technology into breathtaking visual performances. The surrounding Nakanoshima Park is strung with thousands of lights, food and mulled-wine stalls line the riverbanks, and the Okawa River provides shimmering reflections that double the visual impact. The festival draws over a million visitors each December, cementing its status as one of western Japan's premier urban winter events.
