Every year on June 23rd — Okinawa Irei no Hi (Memorial Day) — a fireworks ceremony takes place at the Okinawa Peace Memorial Park in Mabuni, Itoman, after the official commemoration ceremony attended by the Japanese Prime Minister. The hanabi display is deliberately reflective and dignified, with golden and white shells illuminating the night sky above the Cornerstone of Peace monument and the Pacific Ocean beyond. It is one of the most emotionally resonant fireworks events in Japan. International visitors are welcome and the park remains open for quiet reflection.
