Okayama Momotarō Fireworks Festival

Okayama · Okayama · Chugoku

The Okayama Momotarō Fireworks Festival is named after the legendary peach-boy folk hero born in Okayama lore, and it draws over 300,000 spectators to the banks of the Asahi River each year. Approximately 7,000 shells are launched in sequences choreographed to music, with Okayama Castle—the 'Black Castle'—glowing on the riverbank. Viewing decks in Korakuen Garden, one of Japan's three great gardens, offer a premium ticket option. Vendors line the riverside for over a kilometre offering local specialities including kibidango (millet dumplings).
