The Yoshino River cutting through Oboke Gorge offers some of western Japan's finest white-water rafting, with operators such as Happy Raft and Mannaka running guided trips through Class III–IV rapids framed by towering marble and schist cliffs. Spring snowmelt from Tsurugi-san raises river levels to optimal thrilling height from March through May. Half-day and full-day rafting packages depart from the gorge base and include all safety equipment and bilingual guides. The same stretch of river is also popular for kayaking and canyoning in warmer months.
