The Obihiro Kirakira Fireworks Festival is the premier summer fireworks event in the Tokachi region, held at the Obihiro Athletic Park (帯広の森運動公園) in July. Over 3,500 shells are launched in a display that includes large Niagara waterfall effects, music-synchronised starmine bursts, and specially shaped novelty shells. The Tokachi plain's wide-open skies and low horizon allow the fireworks to be seen for many kilometres in every direction. The event is paired with a market celebrating Tokachi's legendary agricultural produce — including wagyu beef, dairy products, and beet sugar confections.
