Nishio Fireworks Festival (Nishio Hanabi Taikai)

Nishio · Aichi · Chubu

Nishio City, celebrated as one of Japan's leading matcha-producing regions, hosts its annual fireworks festival along the Yahagi River in late July. Around 10,000 shells are launched in a 70-minute programme featuring large-sized Warimono shells and rapid starmine finales that crowd the sky. The city's agricultural flatlands provide wide, unobstructed sightlines, allowing spectators to enjoy the fireworks from almost anywhere along a lengthy riverbank viewing zone. Matcha-themed festival foods and regional street snacks line the approach paths, giving the event a distinctive local flavour that sets it apart from urban hanabi.
