The Shikoku Karst, a limestone plateau straddling the Kochi-Ehime border at around 1,400 metres, offers one of western Shikoku's most dramatic autumn panoramas. Vast open grasslands studded with white limestone outcrops turn tawny gold, while pockets of maple and beech along the plateau rim blaze scarlet and orange. Local communities in the area hold small autumn harvest and koyo festivals celebrating the season with local produce and traditional music. The plateau is best accessed by car along the scenic Shikoku Karst Skyline road.
