Naruko Gorge, near Naruko Onsen in northern Miyagi, is widely regarded as one of Tohoku's premier autumn leaf destinations. The gorge stretches roughly 300 metres deep and two kilometres long, its sheer tuff walls framed by densely packed maples that turn vivid crimson and orange in mid-October. The Ofukezawa橋 observation bridge provides the classic postcard vantage point over the coloured canopy. The adjacent Naruko Onsen village offers hot-spring soaking and kokeshi doll workshops as complementary experiences.
