The Naha Matsuri is a large three-day civic festival held on the first weekend of October along and around Kokusai-dori, Okinawa's most famous shopping street. The festival encompasses several distinct sub-events, including the grand Ryukyuan Costume Parade, in which hundreds of participants in royal court dress process down the closed street, and the Naha Tug-of-War (Ōzunahiki), which is celebrated on the same weekend. Folk dance stages, Eisa circles, and international performance groups contribute to a festive atmosphere, while roadside stalls serve Okinawan soba, taco rice, and local sweets.
