Tsurumai Park, established in 1909 and one of Japan's first public parks, is Nagoya's most popular hanami destination and a designated Place of Scenic Beauty. Hundreds of cherry trees of multiple varieties create layered canopies of blossom throughout the park's lawns, pond, and ornamental fountain areas. The park is easily accessible by train and fills each spring with local families and office parties spreading blue tarps for traditional hanami picnics beneath the trees.
