Mitake Keikoku in the Okutama region of western Tokyo is regarded as one of the finest gorge-side koyo walks in the Kanto area. The riverside trail stretches roughly 4 kilometres between Mitake Station and Sawai Station, threading through boulder-studded rapids framed by dense deciduous forest ablaze in crimson and orange. The Gyokkei Bridge viewpoint offers a classic composition of red maples arching over rushing white water. Outdoor cafés and soba restaurants along the trail provide warm rest stops during the cool November air.
