Matsuyama Castle, one of Japan's twelve original surviving castles, crowns a 132-metre hilltop surrounded by approximately 200 Somei Yoshino cherry trees. Each spring the Matsuyama Castle Cherry Blossom Festival fills the castle grounds with food stalls, live traditional performances, and guided castle tours. Visitors can ascend by ropeway or on foot, arriving to sweeping views of the city backed by blossoms. Evening light-up events bathe the white castle walls and pink canopy in warm golden light, creating an atmospheric nighttime scene.
