Maizuru Park, adjacent to the stone walls of historic Fukuoka Castle (Fukuoka-jo), bursts into bloom each spring with approximately 1,000 sakura trees of multiple varieties. The castle ruins provide a dramatic backdrop, and illuminated evening hanami events extend the celebration into the night. Food stalls, picnic parties, and a festive atmosphere draw both locals and visitors throughout the roughly two-week bloom period. The park is within easy walking distance of Akasaka and Ōhori Park stations.
