Lake Toya's fireworks display is one of Japan's longest-running seasonal fireworks events, launching nightly from late April through to late October — over 180 consecutive nights. The displays launch from a barge on the caldera lake and are perfectly mirrored in the still water, with the volcanic Nakajima islands silhouetted in the background. Visitors watch from the lakeside promenade of Toyako Onsen town, and many ryokan guests enjoy private views from their hot spring baths. Special larger displays mark public holidays and summer weekends.
