Kuwana, known as the 'City of Water' for its network of canals and rivers, hosts one of Mie Prefecture's most distinctive fireworks events each late July. Fireworks are launched from barges on the Ibi River, so the bursts reflect in the surrounding waterways and create an immersive aquatic spectacle that earned the festival its 'Suigo' (waterway city) name. Around 10,000 shells are fired in sequences choreographed to music, and spectators can watch from riverbank parks or from special viewing boats hired for the evening. The event is considered one of the best fireworks experiences in the Tokai region for its unique river-barge launch style.
