Ritsurin Kōen Autumn Evening Illumination (夜の特別観覧)

Takamatsu · Kagawa · Shikoku

Ritsurin Kōen, Takamatsu's celebrated Edo-period strolling garden and a Special Place of Scenic Beauty, opens select evenings in November for a paid autumn illumination event. Subtle uplighting picks out the fiery red maples around Nanko Pond and Hokko Pond, casting shimmering reflections on the still water. Hundreds of Japanese maples, ginkgos, and zelkovas provide layers of colour, while the silhouette of Mount Iino forms a dramatic backdrop. Matcha and seasonal sweets are available in the on-site Kikugetsu-tei teahouse during illumination hours.
