Known popularly as Konpira-san, Kotohira-gū Shrine is famous for its long stone stairway ascending Mount Zōzu; in spring this climb becomes a spectacular hanami promenade as cherry trees blossom along the lower and mid sections of the route. The blend of solemn shrine architecture, stone lanterns, and pastel-pink canopy draws both pilgrims and hanami visitors in equal measure. Vendor stalls along the approach sell local golden syrup candies (kampira-ame) and sakura-themed sweets. The climb rewards visitors with shrine gate views framed by blossoms and rolling Sanuki Plain scenery.
