Chikurinji, the 31st temple of the Shikoku 88 Temple Pilgrimage, sits atop Mount Godaisan in eastern Kochi City and is surrounded by a nationally designated scenic garden featuring ancient moss, stone lanterns, and cherry trees. In spring the five-storey pagoda is framed by blossoming trees, creating one of the most photogenic pilgrimage scenes in all of Shikoku. The adjacent Makino Botanical Garden shares the mountain and extends the floral experience. Views of the Pacific Ocean and Kochi city from the summit add to the appeal.
