Kawagoe Koedo Winter Illumination (Kawagoe Christmas & Lights Festival)

Kawagoe · Saitama · Kanto

Each December, Kawagoe's iconic Kurazukuri (clay-walled storehouse) district in the historic Ichiban-gai street is adorned with warm-toned illumination lights that play beautifully against the dark timber and plaster of the preserved Edo-period buildings. The neighbouring Toki-no-Kane bell tower is also lit up, and evening crowds enjoy the contrast of ancient architecture and modern seasonal lighting. The event encourages visitors to explore Kawagoe's sweet-potato confectionery shops, which remain open late during the illumination period. The combination of authentic historical streetscapes and winter lights makes this one of the most atmospheric seasonal events in the Saitama area.
