The Iya Kazurabashi vine bridge, one of only three remaining in Japan and a nationally designated Important Tangible Folk Cultural Property, spans a deep gorge in the Iya Valley and is rebuilt every three years using wild kiwi vine. In late October, the enclosing canyon walls and forested hillsides erupt in a tapestry of crimson, orange, and gold, making the crossing one of Shikoku's most iconic autumn images. The bridge sways gently underfoot as visitors negotiate gaps between the vine rungs, with the river rushing below, adding an element of adventure to the foliage viewing. A nearby biwa waterfall and a reconstructed thatched farmhouse add extra texture to the visit.
