Hiji Waterfall, at 26 metres the tallest waterfall in Okinawa's main island, is reached via a 1.5-kilometre forest trail through the Yanbaru wilderness in Kunigami Village. The trail follows the Hiji River and passes beneath a canopy of subtropical broadleaf trees that include species showing genuine colour change in November and December. The combination of rushing water, moss-covered boulders, and warm foliage tones creates a particularly photogenic late-season scene. An entry fee supports conservation of the surrounding Yanbaru National Park, and trail maps are available at the entrance gate.
