Every late August, Omotesandō Avenue transforms into a stage for one of Tokyo's largest Awa Odori events, featuring over 50 dance troupes and thousands of performers. The distinctive Tokushima folk dance, characterized by its 'fool's dance' chant — 'Dancing fool, watching fool, both are fools, so why not dance?' — fills the tree-lined boulevard with exuberant movement and traditional hayashi music. Unlike regional variants, the Omotesandō edition benefits from a cosmopolitan backdrop of boutiques and zelkova trees, and welcomes foreign visitor participation in designated dance zones. Evening performances under lantern light are a particular highlight.
