Goryokaku, Japan's only Western-style star-shaped fortress, is surrounded by more than 1,600 cherry trees that burst into bloom in late April, making it one of Hokkaido's most photogenic hanami spots. Visitors can view the blossoms from the Goryokaku Tower observation deck for a stunning aerial perspective of the pink star, or stroll the moat-side paths at ground level. Evening illuminations extend viewing into the night, and food vendors and temporary stalls create a festive atmosphere throughout the park. The festival coincides with Golden Week, making it exceptionally lively.
