Shizuki Park in Hagi encompasses the ruins of Hagi Castle, dismantled after the Meiji Restoration, and is one of Yamaguchi Prefecture's top hanami destinations. Approximately 600 cherry trees cover the castle hill and park grounds, with the crumbling stone walls draped in blossoms creating an evocative reminder of the town's Chōshū Domain legacy. The park is set on a peninsula flanked by the sea, so ocean breezes scatter petals across the stone ruins in a particularly romantic display. Below the park, the UNESCO World Heritage-listed samurai residential district of Horiuchi provides a picturesque extension to the spring walk.
