Ohori Park, built around the former outer moat of Fukuoka Castle, is the city's most popular green space and transforms into a stunning autumn landscape in late November. The park's long ginkgo-lined avenue turns a brilliant butter-gold, while maple clusters around the walking circuit and near the Japanese garden annex glow in deep red and orange. The wide 2-kilometre lakeside promenade, connecting three islets by arched bridges, makes for a leisurely autumn stroll with the foliage canopy reflecting in the still water. The park's formal Japanese garden (Nihon Teien) within the grounds is a particularly refined spot for koyo viewing.
