Mount Daisen, nicknamed the Fuji of the Chugoku region, offers a uniquely dramatic hanami setting where late-blooming cherry trees flower against the mountain's still-snowy summit in late April and early May. The Daisen-ji Temple approach and the surrounding highland villages are particularly picturesque, with rows of sakura lining rural roads and shrine paths. Because of the higher elevation, blooming is 2–3 weeks later than coastal areas, extending the regional cherry blossom season for travellers. The Ogamiyama Jinja Okusha trail and nearby Kagikake Pass are popular spots for combining light trekking with sakura viewing.
