Cape Ashizuri (Ashizurimisaki), Tosashimizu

Tosashimizu · Kochi · Shikoku

Cape Ashizuri is the southernmost point of Shikoku and one of the most dramatic coastal landscapes in Japan, where sheer 80-metre granite cliffs plunge directly into the Pacific. The cape forms the heart of the Ashizuri-Uwakai National Park and is sacred ground on the Shikoku 88-temple pilgrimage, home to Kongōfuku-ji (Temple 38). January and February bring a breathtaking bloom of yabu-tsubaki (wild camellia), carpeting clifftop paths in scarlet. Glassbottom boat tours operate from the base, revealing the subtropical coral reefs below.
